Joe, if you have seen my periodic posts you will not that I have some serious miles on my '97 Savage (closing in on 70,000 miles). I used to worry all the time about loud valve train noise. I always checked and rechecked my valve clearance. This bike does make a lot of internal engine noise that you don't hear on other bikes. I can't figure out why but my bike runs great except for the occassional carburator stumbles that I've had since day one (even after changing jet sizes). As I've stated many times before, I believe in good quality motor oil and always checking the oil level. I have always kept the level at the top of the window and change it every 2500 miles. As long as your bikes are running well I wouldn'g worry about the noises. An aftermarket exhaust pipe helps drown out the annoying (but harmless) top end noise.
